Relational Enrichment I & II
The Relational Enrichment Workshops I & II
” Defective relations with other human beings have nearly always been the immediate cause of our woes including our alcoholism.”The Twelve Steps and The Twelve Traditions. Page 80.
Both of these workshops are a synthesis of Tom and Ann’s 27 years of experience working with alcoholics, addicts and their family members. They have facilitated thousands of men and women’s groups, worked with hundreds of couples and facilitated over 100 relational workshops throughout the United States and overseas with recovering individuals and couples. As a result of this experience they know that all relapse is based in relational issues. They have tracked 40 recovering couples over six years who attended their workshop and six follow-up group sessions. Today 75% are still sober and together 85% are still sober. Relational Enrichment I provides first level awareness of the unconscious forces playing out in our relational dance, techniques to de-escalate reactivity and new skills to create connection. After practicing these skills in ” real life”, couples welcome the opportunity to return for Relational Enrichment II. Here they can refine, deepen and integrate their new skills in a small couples group environment of similar experience and language. This is a critical process in achieving the success they are seeking. Tom and Ann are now providing a follow-up plan, which is Internet based.
- Do you experience pain, confusion and frustration around relationship?
- Do you find it difficult to disagree with your partner and still stay connected?
- Do you feel as though the passion has disappeared from your life together?
- Do you keep ending up in the same argument?
- Are you arguing about the children? Sex? Money?
- Some of the benefits participants will experience include:
- Move from blame/criticism to empathy and cooperation.
- Replace fear and isolation with joy and compassion.
- Learn new ways to express anger and resolve conflict.
- Stay connected despite inevitable disagreements.
- Renew passion and pleasure in your relationship.
- Identify behaviors that are early signs of dry relapse.
The workshops are based on all the work and training that Tom and Ann have done over the last 27 years with leaders in the recovery and relational fields including Harville Hendrix PHd, ” Getting the Love you Want”. Steve Hoskinson, Peter Levine, Somatic Experiencing. Sue Johnson, Emotionally Focused Therapy. Patrick Carnes, Sexual addiction. Hal and Sidra Stone, Voice Dialogue. Lori Gordon, PAIRS (practical application of intimate relationship skills), as well as the experience gained from their 20 year private practice and 23 year marriage.
The workshops help couples begin their healing and strengthen their recovery journey. The format includes education about the purpose and dynamics of intimate relationship. Demonstrations of key communication skills and anger release. Also individual reflection and written work. Participants will identify their own behavioral patterns and practice new behaviors with their partners.
